It was our first internal fraud campaign of 2024 here at CBS this week and we decided to run an on-site Market place event offering advice to staff on everything from frauds and scams, cybercrime, data protection, physical security and customer vulnerability. What an amazing event we all put on, with food, games and prizes all with the backdrop of keeping ourselves and our members secure! The financial crime team played a prank having a fake open the box competition with an i phone 15 as the prize! the excitement of the staff at this prize made us feel a bit bad for telling fibs, but if defo got our point across when we announced that everyone who entered had been scammed by ethical scammers (US) Its not always easy to know who you can trust! Busy planning for Take Five week now and can’t wait Matthew Chinn love my job ❤️

DOLLARS AND SENSE - Recent investigations highlight a troubling nationwide trend: SNAP benefits, a lifeline for many families, are being siphoned off through EBT fraud.Across the country, hundreds of thousands of police reports have been filed about stolen SNAP benefits, revealing the alarming scope of the problem. “The last report I have is from May. There have been over 250,000 police reports filed across the country from food insecure individuals who have had their EBT cards stolen,” said Haywood Talcove, CEO of LexisNexis Risk Solutions’ Government Group. “The probability of getting caught is almost zero.”International and domestic criminals are employing tactics like card skimmers and phishing scams to exploit the current system's vulnerabilities. Victims, like the mother of 8 in this CBS story, should never have to face having their benefits stolen once, let alone over and over again. This isn't just about numbers; it's about American families potentially going hungry due to the lack of robust program integrity. It's essential to prioritize and implement common-sense fraud controls nationally. Every dollar lost isn't just a number; it's a meal taken away from someone in need. We don't need emotional blackmail from well-meaning but misguided politicians and media outlets. We need to champion program integrity and ensure no vulnerable American family is left hungry.#EBTFraud #NationalSecurity #ProtectSNAP #hunger #fraud

Flagler School District Loses ‘Significant Amount of Money’ in Apparent Phishing Scheme Involving Vendor: FlagerLive reports: The Flagler County school district was the target of electronic fraud involving what Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly described as a “pretty significant amount of money,” in a scheme having all the makings of phishing–a common method by fraudsters of impersonating familiar contacts either to induce a swindle or to make the recipient reveal sensitive financial information. […] FlaglerLive has learned, but has not confirmed, that the sum involved is around $700,000, and that the money was intended as payment to a contractor or a vendor involved in the ongoing expansion at Matanzas High School, a $22.6 million projecton which it broke ground in late July. It did not reach its intended recipient, and the scheme may not have been uncovered promptly enough to enable recovery. Read more at FlagerLive.

📢DID YOU KNOW?📢 Wire Fraud and Business Email Compromise (BEC) scams are interconnected in many cases? The sophisticated scams are frequently carried out when an individual compromises legitimate business or personal email accounts. Be alert to unfamiliar emails and hyperlinks that may contain misspellings of the actual domain name. Always confirm wire instructions with your Escrow Officer before transferring funds and afterward confirm with Escrow that the funds were sent and received.🤔If you suspect you are the victim of a fraud incident, immediately contact your financial institution to request a recall of funds based on "possible fraud". Regardless of the amount lost, file a complaint with www.ic3.gov or, BEC/EAC victims BEC.ic3.gov as soon as possible. #WireFraud #BECScams #KeepingYouSafe #RealEstateNews #Fraud #CyberSecurity #RealEstate #Lending #Escrow #MatthewBartlettRealEstate #YourGoodGuyRealtor #ConsiderItSold #HillTopRealEstate #TheGallis #FirstAmericanTitle Visit Matthew and his TEAM at https://lnkd.in/bYJB9Ky.DRE: #01353034
