Senior Project Manager

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

This position, which supports larger and more complex enterprise projects across organizational lines, will plan, execute, and finalize projects according to strict timelines and within budget using established VyStar Credit Union policies and procedures.

This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members, third-party contractors and/or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. The Senior Project Manager will also define the project objectives and oversee quality control throughout the project lifecycle. Work at this level may vary in scope from medium to large-sized projects, impact multiple business units, utilize new or multiple technologies, possess an increased level of visibility, impact and risk, and may require communication at all levels of the organization. This role is managed under the general supervision of the Manager, Project Management.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define project scope, approach, goals and deliverables for large complex enterprise initiatives that support both VyStar and business goals in collaboration with Senior Management and stakeholders. Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion. Coordinate with project stakeholders throughout the project. Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Lead the projects teams and help them develop the optimal approach for delivering a project, selecting the best methodology, structure, and deliverables.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals. Determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants, and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary. Where required, negotiate with other VyStar managers for the acquisition of required personnel. Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
  • Direct and manage projects from beginning to end. Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans. Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout project life cycle, and escalate when necessary. Develop project plans and manage the development of all project artifacts/documentation. Develop and deliver status reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations. Conduct project postmortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
  • Identify, assign, track, and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team. Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path, along with scope, risk and resource allocation.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work and deliverables.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • This position requires an individual who can be successful in both an independent as well as a team-oriented, collaborative work environment.
  • This position requires an individual who can lead and manage technical and business resources with varying levels of knowledge, experience, and backgrounds.
  • This position requires prompt and efficient reaction to project adjustments and alterations as well as an individual who is flexible during times of change.
  • This position also requires the ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including Senior Management, clients, and other departments, the ability to defuse tension among project team, should it arise, and the ability to bring projects to successful completion through political sensitivity.
  • Crucial to this position is the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks as well as solve problems in a high-pressure environment.
  • This position requires strong written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills as well as the ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.

EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years with the role and responsibilities of project manager and mentoring other project managers
  • 7+ years developing and implementing project management processes, procedures, and structure into an organization
  • 5+ years using MS Project Server/Project Online and/or other advance project management tools and technology
  • Significant hands-on experience in practical, daily Project Management activities for various types of large scale complex and high risk enterprise projects, including but not limited to software development, infrastructure, and vendor product solutions
  • Roles in a financial organization where the duties have included high-responsibility and multi-project in scope
  • Leveraged formal project management disciplines to manage development resources on a variety of projects
  • Executed multiple projects using a variety of formal project and software development methodologies that required specific processes and specific documentation and management practices

EDUCATION

  • Position requires a four-year Bachelor's degree, Formal higher education (Bachelors or higher) may be substituted with experience at a 2:1.
  • Project Management certification/designation preferred, Six Sigma Green or Black Belt designation preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in MS Office, MS Project, Visio, Power BI, other project and financial tracking applications.
