Can you drink on Boston commuter rail? ›

While you may be tempted to enjoy an adult beverage on your way to a Patriots game, alcohol is not permitted on the Commuter Rail. Non-alcoholic drinks are always allowed.

South Station has become the busiest of all the stations in the MBTA network. Downtown Crossing was once the MBTA's busiest rapid-transit stop, with its location near the Financial District's bustling office towers at the junction of the Red and Orange lines.

There is no eating or drinking allowed on platforms, trains and buses.

Although we appreciate you would go the extra mile and wrap it in a brown bag, the consumption and/or transportation of alcohol on the MBTA is prohibited.

You may bring your own food and beverages onboard for consumption at your seat or private Sleeping Car accommodations. However, you can only consume food and beverages purchased in Dining and Lounge Cars in those cars. Personal food and beverages are allowed in the upper level of Superliner Sightseer Lounges.
